Nancy Louise Freeman: News
Musicians, beware this scam - October 24, 2007
Low-lifes are now targeting independant musicians with a variation on an old scam. Here's how it works:
1. Someone contacts you via email to play a major gig, generally a wedding.
2. They "accidentally" send you a check for a much larger amount than the agreed-upon deposit.
3. They tell you to send them the difference, usually via money order or wire, before their check clears*. OR, they say the event was cancelled and demand a full refund.
4. You send the refund, their check bounces, and they disappear.
People are getting stung bad by this scam, so seriously, keep your eyes open. If something arouses your suspicions, contact the venue where the event is supposed to take place and check up on it. Use a trusted directory service to get the venue's contact info; email can be forged and it's even easier to fake a web page.
*Some banks show checks as having cleared when they really haven't yet, so don't count on that.
OVFF & so on... - October 21, 2007
Hi again, and a big shout out to everyone who's going to the Ohio Valley Filk Festival! After an absence of ten years I'm really looking forward to being at "the worldcon of filk" again.
For those staying in Phoenix, I'm appearing the following Saturday, Nov. 3, at Fiddler's Dream - check out my schedule page for details.
New Photo Gallery - August 11, 2007
The photo gallery has been updated to display a bunch of photos from the Stardust County sessions that didn't make it onto Disk 2. I've also started a new section for photos from out-n-about.
Odds-n-sods - August 4, 2007
ConNotations, the newletter of the Central Arizona Speculative Fiction Society, has published a
terrific review of Stardust County. Click on "Musical Notes" in the "Featured Inside" box. (Requires Acrobat Reader.)
The AMAZ Store has recently updated their webpage so my first three albums are available in their on-line catalog. Check them out - they carry a bunch of great Arizona acoustic musicians.
Stardust County album released into the wild! - July 24, 2007
It's official - Stardust County, the album, is now available on CD Baby - see the Products page for the link. I just approved digital distribution, so the songs should be winging their way to iTunes and other fine purveyors of mp3s soon.
Flagstaff Folk Festival - May 31, 2007
Pre-Orders Closing - May 28, 2007
Pre-Orders for the Stardust County CD set will close this Friday, June 1. This is your last chance to receive the pre-order bonus track, Pat Connors' "Santa Clara Line"! This site will still be taking orders after the 1st, but they won't qualify for the bonus track.
Down to the Wire - May 13, 2007
Mixes are done.
Jacket & CD dseign are done.
Larry is hard at work on the material for the "enhanced" disk.
We should have everything shipped off to the duplicator by the end of the week... stay tuned!
New Audio Clips - April 8, 2007
Just added two new clips to the previews for Stardust County - click on the "Music" tab.
These may not be the final mixes, but they're very close.
Into the Home Stretch... - March 25, 2007
We've finished the last of the recording with time to spare! Dave Clement recorded his vocals right after Consonance, and last weekend I flew out to Mystic Fig with Forrest & Jannifer Ashely to record her vocals and flute work. Jeff's mixing as you read this, Larry's hard at work on the interactive material for the enhanced CD, and me - I'm pulling together stuff for the liner notes and planning the premiere party! Well, first I'm going to collapse for a bit.
Check out the Calendar for new dates!
New Music File! - February 28, 2007
Check out the "Music" tab - I've posted a rough of "The Glass-Spinners", hot off Jeff's mixing board!
There wasn't room for all the chorus members' names in the entry, so here they are: Bob Crabb, Terri Crabb, Sabrina Cuddy, Lynnette Viste, Patricia Cunningham, Jennifer Medeiros, Jim Martin, Bob Linehan. Kudos!
New photos - February 11, 2007
I've updated the Photo section with some snaps from last weekend's session at Flowinglass Studios in Oakland. Just a few more sessions to go!
Preorders open - January 13, 2007
Stardust County, the album, is now available for pre-order - just click "Buy" on the "Destinations" sidebar. Order before the official release date of July 1, and receive a bonus track of "Santa Clara Line", Pat Connors' excellent parody of "Stardust County Line," the song that started it all!
I'm officially on for the Phoenix Folk Festival now - see the "Calendar" destination. It's going to be a busy March!
Updated Calendar - December 30, 2006
I've just finished updating my calendar with my convention and festival dates for 2007 - these are the ones I'm sure about! The Phoenix Folk Festival at Encanto Park in March is still iffy; depending what weekend they choose it could conflict with one of my recording dates. TusCon (Tuscon, November) is a possibility, but as usuaI think I'll have to wait till close to the date before I can call it - it's 11 months away, so who knows!
Wishing you and yours a happy and prosperous New Year,
Nan
New Music Files! - October 29, 2006
I've uploaded rough mixes of two songs from the upcoming album - "Rosa Fe" and "She's Anchored Close to the Canyon Wall". Click the Music tab to listen - they sound great!
The Photo Gallery's been updated too.
KJZA Folk Sessions Live - October 10, 2006
Last Saturday I had the honor and pleasure of appearing on KJZA-FM 89.5 Prescott, on Alexa MacDonald and Tom Agostino's
FolkSessions, Live!. If you're within signal range, check out KJZA's local programming on the weekend.
As always, visit
The Stardust County Telegraph on LiveJournal for latest musical news from Nan.
New Photos in the Gallery! - September 17, 2006
Check out the Gallery for photos from the August session at Mystic Fig.
I plan to be adding some rough mixes from the forthcoming album to this site soon, so keep your eyes skinned!
Welcome aboard! - July 15, 2006
Stardust County has moved to HostBaby, which has a much better interface for keeping the thing updated than Cox. I'll still be keeping the Cox site for my personal page - see the Links section to get there.
